One of the easiest things to do with fabric from a vintage tablecloth is to turn it into a Throw Pillow. The great thing about this is that even if a large portion of the tablecloth is stained or damaged, as long as you can find a section that is in good shape large enough to cover the front of a pillow you can use it. When making your Throw Pillow you can either use fabric from the tablecloth on both the back and front of the pillow, or you can choose a contrasting fabric like gingham or denim for the back piece. Printed vintage tablecloths with floral, fruit or novelty patterns work especially well for this project.

Another fun use for fabric from old tablecloths is to create handbags. Sewing a handbag is fairly easy and there are instructions available online or patterns that you can get at your local craft store to help you along your way. One of the cutest handbags I have ever seen was made from a western themed vintage tablecloth that was printed with 50's style cowboys and horses. Again, you can make the handbag entirely from the tablecloth or add contrasting fabric to give it more visual interest as well.

If your style leans toward shabby, take a vintage lace tablecloth and turn it into a curtain panel. Or, line the tablecloth with simple fabric on the backside to create a beautiful, unique bedspread or throw. The great thing about lining the lace is that you can choose whatever color of fabric compliments your decor and have it peek out through the holes in the lace.

For smaller projects, try covering a journal, lampshade or box with the fabric to create a one of a kind piece. You can attach the fabric with spray adhesive or hot glue to any number of objects to give them instant retro flare.

Although many vintage tablecloths are collectible and can be quite expensive, you can also find beautiful tablecloths for just a few dollars if you look around.
